I was repairing an underwater pipeline off the coast of Portugal when I first noticed it. At first, I thought it was curiosity. A small octopus hovered nearby, watching me work.
Then it did something impossible. Every time I reached for a wrench or dropped a bolt, a tentacle would appear, gently handing it back. Tools I thought were lost, returned. It felt like someone was silently helping me.
I laughed at first. No one would believe me if I told them. The octopus stayed close for hours, assisting quietly, like it understood what I was doing.
I set up cameras just to prove it. Watching the footage later, I realized how extraordinary it was. An octopus helping a human work underwater, calmly and deliberately.
When asked about it, I just smile and say: “I’m happy I had help down there.”
